Did ya know?

Apparently a new way to burn an extra 100 calories a day is to... are you ready for this?... to take a cold shower.
According to the Dukan Diet (which I am NOT on, but my sister bought the book), taking 2 minutes in the shower and keeping the water temperature at 77 degrees is the equivalent of walking for 2 miles. How do you know the water is 77 degrees? Take a thermometer in with you, of course.

How absurd! This diet is like the torture diet. Just when you think the food part of it is bad enough, he recommends taking cold showers. He also suggests eating 4-5 ice cubes a day.

The theory behind this is that your body has to use more energy to warm itself back up, so you will burn calories. I have heard this also when people say to drink cold water (which I do), so I am sure it is scientifically accurate. But seriously, is a cold shower worth 100 calories? I'm thinking no...

Attitude of Gratitude: I am visiting some old friends that I haven't seen in a while this week, so that should be really fun!

Cold showers and I just do not get along. At. All. I'm a big baby when my hot water runs out. Eating a few ice cubes per day doesn't sound too bad though, especially since it was 93 degrees and humid in my area yesterday! Haha

Well, it also helps with blood circulation and thus supports the skin getting back in shape, but... I don't know, some days I am amazed at the amount of crap people will do to lose weight - everything but the reasonable stuff.

LOL. I'd rather be a size 16 for the rest of my life than to take cold showers daily....ridiculous! Thanks for sharing though...pretty funny!

BTW, you have an award waiting for you at my blog! :D

I have heard this before, this is also something suggested in "4 hour body" 77 isn't that cold, its like jumping into a cool pool. Which funnily enough is also very effective. Swimming is more effective at calorie burning then just running because your body does need to burn calories to keep you warm.

Another gimmick.

We have a tankless hot water heater just so our hot water NEVER runs out. I would never voluntarily take a cold shower! I might consider switching to drinking cold water, though. I usually prefer room temperature water.

I LOVE my hot showers. I'll burn my 100 calories another way - maybe walking the dog. :) Very interesting!
