Too much fruit?

Every morning I have been having a fruit smoothie. I change it up with different fruits, but it's always a banana, usually an orange, maybe some frozen berries or peaches, a handful of spinach (which you can't taste), some yogurt and ice. For WW, it's only 1 pt. It's really good, easy to make and very healthy. I looove it!

But... I am starting to wonder if that is too much fruit. Some diet programs actually discourage you from eating a lot of fruit because it is still a carb, it has sugar, etc. And here I am eating probably 3 servings of fruit every morning before I work out. Do you think this is bad?

I might take this week and have Egg Beaters instead, and just see what happens. I like mixing the eggs with cheese or spinach or tomatoes or salsa.

Do you guys eat a lot of fruit? Especially since with WW, all fruits are 0 pts... but I still wonder if having 2-3 servings every single day might be counterproductive when I'm trying to be so strict. Or am I just overthinking things? (Hey, that happens...)

Attitude of Gratitude: I actually spoke with my ex and it wasn't bad. I never thought it'd be possible, but maybe we can be friends. We'll see.

If you are losing weight, what you are doing must be working. If not, the carbs may be the culprit. I know on low carb, fruit must be limited due to the sugar content. Insulin is the body's signal to store fat and high blood sugar causes the pancreas to secrete more insulin. You might read up on it and see if you think some changes need to be made.

Oh oh oh I know I know!! I just rolled up my sleeves - I'm so ready to answer this one!! Ok, first of all, I honestly can't remember if you're following WW religiously or not, but yes, fruits are 0 points. Read this article for more info to help answer your question: http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=108831&sc=3002 AND, I've heard somewhere, I can't remember where since I read SO MUCH CRAP on health and diets, but around 2-3 servings of fruit a day is a PERFECT amount, so you're right on. I eat way more than that, but then again just like the article says down at the end, I've let my hunger and weight loss be my guide. I eat a serving with every meal plus sometimes for snacks. I've even been known to 'binge' on fruit. And I'm still losing weight. So do what's right for you, but don't be afraid of fruits!! If you're eating them instead of unhealthy snacks, do it! If you are enjoying their yumminess in smoothies, go for it!! And I could never ever live on a diet that actually discouraged eating fruits!! YAY, finally a question I feel like I have at least some knowledge about, lol ;)

I think you'll be fine to carry on with your smoothie routine - fruit is full of nutrients and helps digestion and so on, plus you're getting calcium from the yoghurt. Plus when did you ever hear of someone who got fat from eating too much fruit??

I eat a lot of fruit and haven't had any problems with it yet!

The only thing that I would worry about(for mysel - not necessarily for everyone) is that your insulin levels might be spiked from all the sugars... I'm not diabetic, so it's not a huge problem except you have that spike of energy then a big drop. I worry about maintaining my sugar levels so it's not up and down all day. I think it's better for your metabolism and you're less likely to be desperate for a snack or another sugar high. Now you're mixing it with yogurt and spinach, so maybe that helps ofset the sugar?? I don't know. I over thing all this stuff and then don't know what to do about it all! But, like someone said - if it's been working for you - keeping you full without getting over tired later - keep doing it!

I think you are doing great and should keep your fruit intake up! You are doing so well, your body obviously agrees with it!

Too much fruit? You must be kidding!

I know all the "too much carb" talk, but honestly... our bodies need fuel, they are all ready and prepared for using carb, and although you may see a quick loss at the beginning of every low-carb diet, this is mainly water shed, which will return once you reintroduce carbs to your food plan.

Fruit is full of vitamins and stuff, and I think is way healthier for you than most low-carb plans.

If you still feel like reducing your fruit intake, try replacing some of it with vegetables... less sugar, different vitamins. It all depends on the mix.

I've had so many people tell me that I'm eating too much fruit. But when I think about other choices I could be making, or used to make- I think that fruit is ok. It's full of nutriets and like everyone else has said- no one has gotten fat eating fruit!

I read it is great to start your day with fruit first-it's excellent for digestion and should be consumed on an empty stomach. I think it was an article from Dr. Oz on CNN. I also agree with the let your boy be your guide strategy.

I really don't think you can ever have too much fruit or vegetables. Those are like "freebie" foods. I think the smoothie is a great pre-workout snack, and then post-workout eggs & oatmeal or eggs & whole wheat toast is a great way to refuel your body.

I really don't think there is such a thing as TOO MUCH FRUIT:) I would say keep doing your smoothie. Fruit is so much better than other things you could be eating! It's all about the little changes that make a huge difference.

You are doing so good, I don't think you need to worry about the fruit! What you are doing is working great.

Never too much fruit! But you might want to get some protein powder, (I've read whey protein is the best for fat burning) and toss that into the smoothie. That can help any sugar spikes if you're having any, and it's great for your energy!

You are losing, and thats the key here...if you were not you would have to re-evaluate your food intake and exercise and see where things may be sticking. It may, or not be too much fruit- only if you were eating loads. While you're losing ..I think its all good.

I agree, no such thing as too much fruit. O.k. that isn't totally true, if you go really crazy you can get a tummy ache, as we all know.
The sugar in fruit is processed differently than refined sugar, so you really shouldn't be having the major hills and valleys like you would with refined sugar. Anyway, most of us don't eat enough fruits and veggies, I say if it is working for you, and you are enjoying it, go for it.
